Desert Jasper, also known as “Polychrome Jasper” or “Multi-color Jasper” is a rare variety of Jasper (a form of Chalcedony) that was found as recently as 2006 in the mountains of Madagascar. The word “jasper” comes from the Greek word iaspi meaning “spotted stone,” and it is related to the Hebrew yashpeh and the ancient Assyrian word ashpu. Jasper was worn in antiquity by Priests in Egyptian and Hebrew cultures. Some Native American tribes would use Jasper to dowse for water.
Desert Jasper is thought to be both a grounding and stimulating stone, with the ability to provide stability and increase stamina. It is especially good for strengthening foundations with the goal of branching out into one’s passions or lofty goals.
Desert Jasper is associated with the Root Chakra, which governs foundations.
